Nokia Lumia 900 for comparison

A tipster has sent a rather credible picture of a new Nokia handset to wmpoweruser, which is believed to be the Nokia RM 820 headed for AT&T. From the picture, the handset looks pretty slim, as you can compare. Also,  there is no curved glass and the charging port seems to be at the top. Notice the new Windows Phone logo. If this is a real Nokia device, Nokia has really improved the Lumia design and we hope this can accelerate windows phone sales considerably. What do our readers think?  Wedo not know, but here is what others are saying:

Update

WPCentral reports, This was actually a well done fan render based off of the leaked Nokia bezel from yesterday. Someone then tipped off WPMU, trying to pass it off as real. While the 'photo' is fake, there is a good chance that whatever Nokia releases, it may look very similar to this.

Windows Phone 8 new features

Windows Phone 8 is a major change in thinking for Microsoft. This is the first time that Microsoft’s mobile platform will share both its kernel & user-interface with that of a Desktop. It means you will have the same experience on your Desktop and on your smartphone. In addition, developers don’t have to specialize in App development for Windows Phone. That is, apps developed for Windows 8 will work on Windows Phone 8 and since Windows is the most widespread OS out there, we can be sure about a huge inflow of apps to the Windows Phone marketplace.

The key changes in windows phone 8 are :

Dual-core Processors:As Microsoft has relaxed the hardware restraints on Windows Phone 8 and is allowing support for multiple cores on Windows Phone for the first time. However Nokia has yet to state which chips it will be using in its next-gen Windows Phone devices.
Screen resolution: Windows Phone 8 will offer support for up to three different screen resolutions, adding 1280 x 768 and 1280 x 720 to the already 480 x 800 pixels. This is great news as it means we'll be able to watch video and view images in higher definitions.
Start screen: One of the few things we've actually seen of Windows Phone 8 is the new Start screen, which uses the full width of the smartphone screen, so you'll be able to pin more of your favourite apps, websites and feeds to the Start Screen. Along with this the Tile sizes we're set to get a smaller square, which is approximately a fourth the size of the square tile. This new smaller tile is perfect for those apps you like to have on your home screen but don't necessarily use that often;Hence you'll be able to personalise your nokia LUMIA by choosing what size you want the tile to be.Further more the start screen images ive seen till now also show that an array of colours is also introduced so that  you can further customise the colour of homescreen tiles.

SD cards: Nokia Lumia smartphones have always come with plenty of internal storage but Windows Phone 8 allows for external storage to be added. It's not been confirmed the capacity of cards supported but are expected to be well in line with the latest cutting-edge developments!
Near Field Communication (NFC): NFC for those who have not seen it, is a wireless technology that allows devices to communicate simply by touching each other. It is a perfect tool for quick sharing and transfer of data.Nokia being a great supporter of NFC is introducing its hardware in windows phone 8 devices.

Internet Explorer 10: Internet Explorer 10 will be the most advanced browser yet.it's the same browser as you'll find on Windows 8 so you'll be able to have the same experience on mobile as you will desktop.

Apps: With over 100,000 apps already on the Windows Phone Marketplace and a brand new SDK giving developers hands on tools to make the most of the new platform, there will be no shortage of apps in the coming months
Built for business: Enterprise capabilities such as encryption, app management and Company Hub are also set to come to Windows Phone 8, making the platform better focussed for the professional user.

Nokia to unveil Arrow and Phi Windows Phone 8 devices in September

For the last few weeks we’ve mentioned how Nokia will be unveiling three new devices for the US.
According to a source on September 5th, Nokia will unveil two new devices—code-named Arrow and Phi—with a third named Atlas for Verizon in coming weeks. Those names are of course just placeholders until marketing names are decided upon..

Apple on the Nokia Lumia in court

In the highly watched Apple versus Samsung patent trial, meaning there is a lot of ‘Law & Order’ type drama occurring probably one of the most entertaining moments came from Apple’s lawyers who were presenting their final case to the jury. At around 1:38 PM PT their lawyer, Harold McElhinny, evidently held up a unspecified Nokia Lumia Windows Phone and exclaimed...
"Not every smartphone needs to look like an iPhone."
In addition an other device called the Sony Xperia Arc was also shown.
HOWEVER
one thing that can be said about the Windows Phone OS and the Nokia line of Lumias is that they certainly don’t copy from any of their competitors and instead have gone their own path.

Verizon will have a new Nokia Windows Phone 8 device later this year

Verizon will launch a new Windows Phone 8 device this year from Nokia.
The decision most probably is the result of them sitting out the last few months in order to launch their preferred phone from Nokia, with LTE and with a solid, cutting edge mobile operating system.

These specifications are not bad but not great either. There are super spec'd android handsets on the market. A handset with these specs probably won’t take the world by storm, like the iPhone or the Galaxy S did. Lets hope Nokia comes up with something great.

Microsoft developer evangelist says Windows Phone SDK will only arrive after mid-September

A Microsoft employee and Developer Evangelist in Columbia, Walter Novoa has posted on his MSDN site that the Windows Phone 8 SDK will not be ready until mid-September. So developers will be left with too very short time interval between the release of SDK and the arrival of Windows Phone 8 handsets on the market. Yes, we know that WP7 apps will work on WP8 handsets, but developers always think for the future. They will not be able to manipulate the newer elements of WP8 SDK until that.

Its good to see Nokia is boldly challenging Samsung which is now the largest phone maker by volume in the world. Looks like Nokia has something great for us.

Windows Phone Marketplace Bug Busted

Microsoft has fixed the bug that caused problems with Application installation on windows phone devices. Here is what they wrote on their blog.

UPDATE (16 AUG): We fixed the digital certificate problem and last evening resumed publishing new apps and updates. It will take a day or two for the repair to fully deploy and newly-published apps to begin appearing in Marketplace again.  If you experienced errors, I want to emphasize that you don’t need to do anything to start downloading new apps or updates once the repair has finished rolling out.

Nokia Windows Phone 8 handsets to be launched sooner, says Stephen Elop

Nokia CEO Stephon Elop has said that Nokia’s windows Phone 8 handsets will launch in a relatively near term and he did deny it will launch in September.

Elop is also determined about his Windows Phone plan.

"I don't think about rewinding the clock and thinking about competing elsewhere," he told reporters.

"In today's war ... (between) Android, Apple and Windows, we are very clear, we are fighting that with the Windows phone," said Elop

Application publishing suspended on Windows Phone Marketplace

Screenshot (12)

Microsoft has temporarily ceased publishing of new apps to the Windows Phone Marketplace while it grapples with a bug that is preventing some users from downloading or updating apps.

An issue with the digital certificates used to sign apps is preventing some phones from installing some apps for the past several days, the company said today.

A Microsoft investigation revealed that the issue affects only phones that were upgraded to Windows Phone 7.5 from an earlier version of the operating system, Mazhar Mohammed, Microsoft's director of program management, said in a Windows Phone blog post. Phones purchased with Windows Phone 7.5 preinstalled don't appear to be affected, he said.

Mohammed said the company is already planning to rollout a fix, but in the meantime, the marketplace has paused publishing of new apps.

Only a small percentage of the more than 100,000 apps in the marketplace are affected, he said.

"Among the more popular ones affected are the New York Times, What's App, and Translator from Bing -- all of which recently issued new updates," he said.

Gartner: Windows Phone Had 2.7% Smartphone Marketshare In Q2 2012

Gartner today released their Q2 2012 Smartphone sales report. According to them, 4 million Windows Phone units were sold in Q2 2012 up from 1.7 million units in Q2 2011. Also in terms of market share, Microsoft holds 2.7% of the market which is also up from 1.6% in the same quarter in 2011.
Gartner commented the following on Nokia’s sales,
While posting sequential growth in the feature phone market, Nokia’s Lumia devices continue to struggle to find a place in consumers’ minds as a replacement for Android.
Another interesting thing to note in the above table is that Samsung’s Bada sales are still higher than Windows Phone device sales. As Nokia CEO said before, Windows Phone 8 along with the buzz around Windows 8 should accelerate  Windows Phone devices sales in Q4 2012.

Samsung SGH-T899 for T-Mobile emerges on the web with potential Windows Phone 8, LTE

samsung-sgh-t899-odyssey-uap
User agent profiles on the web aren't always guarantees of what you'll get in a future device, but this is one of those moments where we'd like the details to be true. A Samsung-made Windows Phone 8 device for T-Mobile, the SGH-T899, lines up closely with the higher-end Odyssey we'd previously only seen in a purported roadmap. Along with alluding to the OS itself through the presence of Internet Explorer 10, there's a reference to the hinted-at 1,280 x 720 screen that you won't find on any Windows Phone 7 gear. The profile even contains a suggestion of LTE support, although we're still wondering whether or not this would be very aggressive future proofing or just an incidental aspect of the possible Snapdragon S4 chip -- Magenta isn't flicking the LTE switch until 2013. At least the rumored fall release date gives us a comparatively short wait before we learn whether the Odyssey and T899 are one and the same, or real at all.
