The future of Windows Phone

Microsoft has been in the mobile business since over a decade. But till now, they have never seen the same success as with the PCs. In 2010 Microsoft unveiled the new, completely revamped Windows Phone 7. The new OS was looking beautiful, and it was much more battery efficient and fluid compared with Android. However, people had complaints; no copy paste, no multitasking. Cycling through the media, these comments prevented WP from being an initial hit.

In earlier 2011, Microsoft made a partner; Nokia, who were by then the world's largest handset and smartphone makers. in October 2011, WP7.5 made its debut along with a sleeve of new handsets. Nokia released their Lumia 800 and 710 and a lot of positive speculation was made. But people were not interested. As yet, not more than 20 million WP handsets have been sold which is a shame.

Now, we are waiting for the next blow from Microsoft. The much hyped WP8. Will WP 8 change the game? Should Microsoft still keep trying? What is the future of Windows Phone. Lets start exploring to reach a conclusion.

Reasons Why Windows Phone Might Not Sell

1. There is already a lot of competition in the market between the two giants, android and iOS.
2. Manufacturers, and carriers are more interested in android than windows phone.
3. Hundreds of millions of iOS and android devices are already out there. These devices serve as free ads for these platforms making it more difficult for Windows Phone to catch public attention
4. Many people when they hear windows, think its a platform for PCs.
5.The number of apps in WP marketplace is much less compared with the others.
6. Carrier reps mostly push android devices.
7. Many people still have a bad taste of the previous Windows Mobile. So much so that they are not ready to try it out , once again.
8. There is nothing ground breaking inside WP except a built-in Office app for some.

Reasons Why Windows Phone Might Sell

1.  With the release of WP 8, Windows apps will work on WP which will reduce the gap between Windows Phone marketplace and apple's AppStore.
2. Windows Phone 8 will bring new features many of which prevented Windows Phone sales in the past e.g. lack of memory card support, lack of multicore processor support.
3. People often want a change.
4. Windows 8 will advertise Windows Phone (in several ways that can not be explained now)
5. Android has patent issues, because of which manufacturers pay royalties to Microsoft.
6. Nokia is all in on WP. The world’s Biggest mobile phone maker by volume is making great Windows Phone handsets. They will release a Windows Phone with their unique and supreme 41 MP camera sensor.
7. Samsung has lost to Apple. In a recent Samsung-VS.-Apple case, Samsung was declared to have infringed on apple’s patents on some of their android devices which might convince them to manufacture more and push their Windows Phone handsets.
8. Media has created so much fans of Windows Phone, who are probably waiting for a good number of Apps in the market to play with and certain other improvements (that will come to Windows Phone 8).
9. A lot of analysts agree it will cross iOS share by 2016.
10. iOS is backed up by just a single device every year, which if starts to fail will leave a big space to fill.

Conclusion: No one can say what exactly is going to happen next. But when one looks deeper into these reasons, it becomes quiet evident that there is going to be no quick gain in market share for WP. But May be, slowly Windows Phone will catch some fire.
