iCookBook for Windows 8 App review

One of the most common cooking apps on Apple’s AppStore, iCookBook on Windows 8 looks totally different. iCookBook is all about making it fun and easy to find new recipes. There are several thousands of recipes which you can browse or search.

User Interface:
The iCookBook has a nice user interface and is different from its iPad version as you would expect.  Apps on Windows 8 inherit the Metro ( Oops, modern)  UI of Microsoft’s new platform. You can scroll through the categories horizontally. Touchpad scrolling is currently not supported, but may be later we can scroll through the app by just scrolling our finger over the touchpad like we can do with the start screen. On tablet however, browsing through the App wont be an issue.

Functionality:
The app has several thousands of recipes organized into six categories i.e. Dish, Ingredient, cuisine, theme, occasion, brand. You can simply click on a category and browse through the recipes available there in. In addition to this, you can search recipes by pressing Windows+Q (windows 8 default shortcut for search) or from the charms menu. Also, you can share any recipe from the charms menu. Just open the charms and click on share, however only email sharing is currently supported. A full resolution photo is inserted into the email. Moreover, you can add recipes to your favorites and your recent recipes are automatically added to an auto updated list on the homescreen.  In addition, you can see conversions and substitutions of ingredients  . To do this, right click anywhere on the screen and a menu appears at the bottom of the screen from which you can select whatever you would like to see.

Stability:
Most apps that I have used so far have some kind of a stability issue, that hopefully will be fixed by the time Windows 8 hits the stores. I have been using the app for about one month now and there has never been any stability issue which is just great .

Bottom Line
iCookBook is a wonderful app for those who love to cook. User interface is simple and elegant and there are thousands of recipes you can find. The app is very user-friendly and there are no stability issues. We recommend it to every one who loves to cook.
